133 New Homes For Newcastle Airport Site

Renters and buyers will want to speak to the best estate agents Sunderland has to offer in order to nab themselves one of the latest homes to be built in the area.

Land near Newcastle Great Park will now house 133 residential units including 60 apartments and 73 houses following a successful planning application, that has been approved by Newcastle City Council.

The flats will be spread across 10 blocks and the houses will include detached, semi-detached and terraced.

Persimmon is behind the application and will be in charge of developing the project, which it believes will create 54 construction jobs while the homes are being built.

The new homes are much needed, as demand outstrips supply in Newcastle, but they are not without some controversy.

Officials at Newcastle International Airport, have voiced concerns that local residents will be affected by noise levels from planes, and that the risk of this has not been properly investigated.

They claimed there was: "inadequacy of the noise monitoring undertaken to understand noise levels that future residents of the site will experience" in an objection they put forward to the council.

There have been investigations into the noise pollution that local residents may be exposed to, but the airport still feel that future residents are made aware of how close the homes are to the airport and the noise levels that this could cause.

Despite this, Newcastle City Council has argued that the project will go ahead due to the high standard of design support for jobs in the area, and sustainable travel arrangements.
